Hyperganic launches HyDesign, a cloud-based 3D printing lattice structure design software

Jul 26, 2024

On July 24, 2024, Antarctic Bear learned that German engineering design software expert Hyperganic launched HyDesign, a new cloud-native design application specifically designed for creating 3D printed lattice structures. The tool enables industrial designers, application engineers, and OEMs exploring cutting-edge uses of 3D printing to easily, quickly, and cost-effectively design lattice-based products.

Engineering software provider Hyperganic launched HyDesign

The software integrates Forward AM's Ultrasim 3D lattice library, allowing users to take full advantage of high-quality lattice structures in minutes without having to download a separate version of the Ultrasim 3D lattice engine.

The company said that HyDesign addresses key challenges in 3D printed lattice design, including simplifying the complexity of lattice design, materials, and printer options. It eliminates the need for professional designers and high-performance computing hardware, minimizing expensive and time-consuming trial printing processes. In addition, it also uses proven materials and meshless simulation (currently a beta feature) to accelerate the design process.

“Traditionally, developing products for 3D printing has required costly trial and error,” said Michael Robinson, Managing Director and CTO of Hyperganic. “HyDesign changes that by accelerating the design process with design flexibility, validated materials and simulation, all in one application that can be learned in minutes.”

Key features and benefits include

● Generate lattice structure designs in seconds and export them to standard file formats such as STL or 3MF in minutes.

● Access validated materials from Forward AM’s Ultrasim 3D lattice library to reduce material validation time when developing footwear, seating and protective applications.

● Meshless simulation, currently a beta feature, helps further reduce the amount of trial and error required, achieving results within 5% of industry standard dedicated simulation packages.

● Design directly in your browser without the need for specialized hardware.

Partnership with Forward AM

Speed up product development and take the guesswork out of functional 3D printed structures with the integration of Forward AM’s Ultrasim 3D lattice library. The library is based on decades of material science expertise and rigorous testing, offering the best possible combination of lattice designs, materials and printers, tested and used in industries such as footwear, seating and protection. It currently includes printer-material pairings such as Ultrasint TPU 01 for HP Multi-Jet Fusion (MJF5200) and TPU 88A for Farsoon’s HT252.

Martin Back, CEO and Managing Director of Forward AM, said: “The Ultrasim 3D lattice library represents a major leap forward in design for additive manufacturing. By combining our material expertise with Hyperganic’s technology, we are not only optimizing the product, but also reshaping the industry and accelerating the innovation cycle across the board.”

The library is still available for free on Forward AM’s website and is integrated into HyDesign to provide designers and engineers with detailed technical specifications.

Since the Ultrasim 3D lattice engine was further developed and replaced by HyDesign, Hyperganic has been committed to driving more improvements. These improvements include upcoming features such as thermal simulation, computational fluid dynamics simulation, and parameter optimization, which will further enhance the ability of designers and engineers to solve more severe challenges and optimize industrial parts such as fluid heat exchangers. At the same time, the company emphasizes the importance of software in simplifying complex processes, improving efficiency and reducing costs, aiming to help engineers and designers develop and optimize products more effectively.

HyDesign is now available for commercial users for a 14-day free trial, with simulation provided as a test function.
